I found a guitar in the cupboard under the stairs one bored afternoon aged ten — a hinge point in my life. What I love to do most is sing, and a hunger for experience led me to want to learn all the instruments: mostly guitar and piano, a bit of viola. These days I mainly write songs.
The return
I've played one way or another most of my life — bands as a teenager, open mics and gigs, an Irish tour, and the better part of a year in Australia living off what I made busking in the street. No great success to speak of, largely down to my own incompetence or attitude. The songwriters I keep coming back to are Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Conor Oberst.
Then life in Brighton came apart. I left England altogether — emigrated to Spain, started over — and it took a few years to find my feet. The music went quiet in all that, but it never really stopped; the thread kept running underneath. It's surfacing again now, and this is where the demos go.
